District 14 – Lake Worth Beach

Welcome to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office District 14 City of Lake Worth Beach website. I’m Captain Terrence Carn, the Law Enforcement Commander for District 14. I’m honored to be serving as the commander of this community. My goals and priorities are to serve and protect the citizens. Building strong community partnerships is critical to achieving these goals. We can better address crime and quality of life issues by working together. We can only succeed with your support; it’s an interdependent relationship. From Community Policing to Proactive Policing, I will ensure steps are made in the positive direction to continue improving this community.

I was born and raised in Palm Beach County. I began my Law Enforcement career in 1997 with the Boynton Beach Police Department, working in the Road Patrol division and Tactical Unit. I started employment with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) in December 1998. Throughout my tenure at PBSO, I have been assigned to various job assignments as follows: Deputy Sheriff – Road Patrol Division; Deputy Sheriff – Community Policing; Agent – Narcotics Division; Agent – State Attorney’s Office Anti- Money Laundering Task Force; Sergeant – Road Patrol Division; Sergeant – Street Crimes Unit; Lieutenant – Watch Commander – Road Patrol Division; Lieutenant – District 13 (Belle Glade) Commander; Lieutenant – Violent Crimes Division over Auto Theft, BAT, Crime Stoppers, DUI, Gang Unit, and Robbery; and Lieutenant – District 1 (West Palm Beach) Executive Officer.

My educational journey includes an Associate of Arts Degree from Long Beach City College, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with an option in Criminology and Corrections from California State University Northridge and a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University. I am currently pursuing a PhD to enhance my knowledge and skills further. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), which allows me to bring a unique perspective to my role as a Law Enforcement Commander.

District 14 has eighty-two (82) sworn deputies and six (6) civilian employees. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our approximately 43,000 residents. The City of Lake Worth Beach, which we serve, encompasses seven square miles and is home to a diverse population. We embrace the community policing philosophy, which involves a committed partnership between citizens and the deputies sworn to serve them. We work closely with the city, the CRA, and Lake Worth Beach’s many neighborhood associations to make this city a safer place to live, work, and visit.

Sincerely,

Captain Terrence Carn
Commander – District 14
